Chuck's Chat-Welcome to June!

Yes, I’m late. To all you faithful followers (you know who you are), thank you for your patience. I’ve gotten behind in my shop work as well due to excessively saturated atmospheric conditions, and an air compressor that went ka-fluey. That there’s a politically correct technically mechanical breakdown term. Not only is it difficult for lacquer and paint to dry efficiently in humid conditions, but it is even harder to spray lacquer and paint without an air compressor. However, some cooler temperatures and a trip to Lowe’s later I’m back up and running and making great strides to keep customers at bay. I mean happy.

I’m gonna unofficially declare current drought free conditions here along the Northern Sycamore Urban Boundary. Check back in three weeks to see if that’s still viable.

While trying my best at fescue pasture management, one of the trail wheels on the rotary cutter went ka-fluey. I’m over half-done mowing, so it’s just gonna have to wait until I get time and or raise the funds to secure another one. Eighty-nine bucks! Not including shipping! And who knows how long it will be in transit?

I see that June is National Dairy Month, which began in 1937. The purpose is to celebrate the dairy industry’s many contributions to our health and economy. You don’t have to have grown up with milk cows to appreciate the many benefits of dairy products. But if you did, like I was fortunate to have experienced, you have a ground floor affinity for the amount of planning, the time, the sacrifices, and the sweat equity involved just so we can have an extra dip on National Chocolate Ice Cream Day on June 7.

In the Northern Hemisphere, meteorological summer began June 1, and astronomical summer begins June 21. That is the date of the summer solstice, or the day with the longest daylight hours of the year. From there, there will be fewer and fewer daylight hours every day, until the winter solstice Dec. 21, when daylight hours begin to slowly increase again. According to the National Weather Service, the summer solstice happens at the moment Earth's tilt toward the sun is at a maximum. The sun will be directly over the Tropic of Cancer, and for every place north, the sun is at its highest point in the sky, marking the longest day of the year.

June 11 is National German Chocolate Cake Day, and June 12 is National Peanut Butter Cookie Day. Both would be best celebrated along with a big ol’ glass of milk. Just sayin’.

By the way, just to add fuel to the punctuation/grammar/spacing fire, I double space after a sentence. I always have, and always will. That’s because my Riley County High School typing instructor Mrs. Donna Karman, College Bound English teacher Miss Ann Bradford and Principal and highly acclaimed author Dr. Dan Yunk, all taught me that’s how it should be done. So there.

Until next time,
