Chuck's Chat-Welcome to October!

Fellow Montgomery County Farm Bureau members, please follow our Facebook page for some of the fantastic items that will be offered at our 3rd annual benefit silent auction at the upcoming October 6 annual meeting. The proceeds are designated to assist 20 year old Jessica Wood and her continuous battle with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS). In layman’s terms, she was born with half of a heart, and has endured many medical procedures throughout her life. Jessica is the daughter of members Warren and Melody Wood from Cherryvale, and is currently attending Kansas State University.

Yes, we will be holding our annual meeting. Despite all the numbers, percentages, graphs, curves, peaks, opinions, and media bias, we will conduct business. We will have a meal. We will raise lots of money. And we’ll like it! We will follow the latest, up to date, current, most recent socially accepted protocol to the best of our abilities in hopes of providing a safe, enjoyable, action packed, and fun filled adventure for all those in attendance.

In case you did not receive your member invitation letter, the meeting/dinner/benefit auction/great time will be held at the 4-H Building in Independence’s Riverside Park on Tuesday, October 6 at 6:30pm. Masks are not required, you may wear one if you choose, and they will also be available at the sign in table. The boxed meal is being catered by The Yoke, with dessert provided by Sunflower Soda Fountain, both of Coffeyville. We will open all the windows and doors to provide as much of a fresh air environment as possible. Dress appropriately in case it happens to be on the cool side of this current temperature roller coaster we seem to be experiencing. And please bring your check books, a generous heart, and a loving mind.

For those of you playing along at home, you too can make a bid or a donation by contacting Kathy O’Brien at the Montgomery County Farm Bureau office at (620)331-0826, montgomeryfb@kfb.org, or stop by the office in person. If you’d like to mail proceeds, send them to Montgomery County Farm Bureau, 217 W Myrtle, Independence, 67301. Please mark the envelope “Donation”. Or, you can contact me at (620)330-1687. You do not have to be a member to contribute to this more than worthwhile charitable cause. We will accept funds until October 16, just in case the influx of mail-in ballots slows down the usually on time USPS delivery process.

Bless you in advance for your kind hearted generosity. Thank you for helping us help someone else.

Be smart. Be safe. Stay strong.

God Bless America

Until next month,

Chuck Voelker
