Chuck's Chat-Welcome to October 2021!

Fellow Montgomery County Farm Bureau members, please follow our Facebook page for some of the fantastic items that will be offered at our 4th annual benefit silent auction at the upcoming October 5 annual meeting. The proceeds are designated to assist Carrie Cascarano of Cherryvale. Carrie’s life was changed in early March 2021 when at the young age of 36, she was diagnosed with malignant phyllodes breast tumor, a particularly aggressive sarcoma (cancer). This cancer is extremely rare and very difficult to treat. Since Carrie’s mastectomy on July 6th, the cancer continues to be aggressive. She is currently taking chemo one day a week and radiation daily through the end of October. Due to side effects coupled with her weakened immune system and Covid protocols she is currently unable to work. A wife and mother of five, she has been employed by Tri County for the last 6 years as a special education para at Lincoln Central. Carrie is also a community leader of the Happy Hustlers 4-H Club, a Cherryvale Youth Fair Board member and has served as rabbit superintendent for several years.

As we did last year, we will be holding our annual meeting. In case you did not receive your member invitation letter, the meeting/dinner/benefit auction/great time will be held at the 4-H Building in Independence’s Riverside Park on Tuesday, October 5 at 6:30pm. Masks are not required, you may wear one if you choose, and they will also be available at the sign in table. The boxed meal is being catered again by The Yoke, with dessert provided by Sunflower Soda Fountain, both of Coffeyville. We will open all the windows and doors to provide as much of a fresh air environment as possible. Dress appropriately in case it happens to be on the cool side. And please bring your check books, a generous heart, and a loving mind.

For those of you playing along at home, you too can make a bid or a donation by contacting Kathy O’Brien at the Montgomery County Farm Bureau office at (620)331-0826, montgomeryfb@kfb.org, or stop by the office in person. If you’d like to mail proceeds, send them to Montgomery County Farm Bureau, 217 W Myrtle, Independence, 67301. Please mark the envelope “Donation”. Or, you can contact me at (620)330-1687. You do not have to be a member to contribute to this more than worthwhile charitable cause. We will accept funds until October 15, just in case the USPS delivery process slows down even more.

Bless you in advance for your kind hearted generosity. Thank you for helping us help someone else.

Be smart. Be safe. Stay strong.

God Bless America
