I’m not real sure where spring went. It appears we’re headed right into summertime temperatures. Ope, never mind, I see a 57 high and 32 low for Wednesday the 5th here along the Northern Sycamore Urban Boundary. Let the roller coaster of temps continue! And rain, we need rain.

Kansas Farm Bureau is offering a regional ag tour to Montana and Idaho June 12-16. Travelers will experience seed potato production, cattle ranches, fruit orchards, wineries, and the forestry and lumber industry through the Big Sky and Gem State landscapes. Once again, Kansas Farm Bureau is awarding a Natural Resources Award. If you know of a Farm Bureau member in Montgomery County who deserves to be recognized for their farm conservation or land stewardship efforts, contact Kathy O’Brien at 620-331-0826. The application deadline is May 15.

Kansas Farm Bureau’s (KFB) Campaign School is accepting registrations for a two-day strategy session on April 19-20 to train current and future elected office holders, such as school board, county commissioner, or state political offices. Farm Bureau members of Kansas can attend for $250 and nonmembers can join for $300. If you’d like to become a Farm Bureau member, visit www.kfb.org/join. The program is limited to 20 participants and will take place at KFB headquarters, 2627 KFB Plaza, in Manhattan. The Kansas Farm Bureau “Century Farm” program will recognize family farms whose current owner/operator is related to the owner/operator of the farm in 1923 or before. Kansas Farm Bureau will also recognize member families whose farms have been in the same family for 150 years. If your farm, or if you know of someone who may qualify, please contact Kathy O’Brien at the Montgomery County Farm Bureau office at 620-331-0826. Applications must be submitted by May 15, 2023. Since the year 2000, Kansas Farm Bureau has recognized more than 3,200 family farms.

The Wildcat District Nutrition, Health and Food Safety Agent will be hosting a Food Handler ServSafe Training at our Independence office - 410 Peter Pan Road, Independence, KS on Monday, April 24th starting at 8:00 a.m. The registration deadline is April 20th and course fee is $15.
